OCS Story

It all started with Junki playing CS back in Beta 5 around January 2000. I used to go watch him play at his house and he finally got me into it at Beta 7 around September 2000. I had played HL for about a year prior, just never tried any of the mods. Once I got into the game and started playing regularly we decided to start our own clan...mainly so we could track our stats together on a server called Shrevenet based out of Louisiana. He was [OCS]Liquidz and I was [OCS]The Loneliest Monk (based on my affinity for Bebop Jazz). That was it for the longest time...we weren't really into leagues or being very competitive...just played for fun.

Then in January 2001, Aaron moved to San Diego and got a friend and a roommate out there into the game and they joined our clan too. That was Dave, (Figg/Addict) and Tim (Timmay). We changed our names to what they are today Aaron, (Junki) and mine (Devils Advocate). Around mid-2001, Aaron started experimenting with Linux and installed a CS server to test the operation of the OS. Not too long after, the clan had made it a regular home. It was only hosted on a cable modem so the limit was only 12 or so players. We had a simple website with stats from the server (that I updated daily over ftp, which was a major pain in the ass and daunting task at times) and soon we started getting regulars to populate the server. Also, around that time, Aaron met Matt, (SanteeMatt/Princess) and Tony (ApHtEr). They started a clan called SDR based off of Matt and Tony's SDRavers site and people that visited that site and posted on their forums would play with that tag at our server. That's how we met Mike, (SDE) and Jon (1k/1000101). Eventually we decided to merge the clans and that gave us a total of 7 members since Tony never came around anymore.

While we were still two separate clans, a group of players from the clan [SPUD] frequented the server. When SPUD broke up, MadMax and SirShawn started [So|o] which is where a lot of the ex-SPUDs ended up. Also, [::A-::] was another clan that became regulars to the first server. We also met Scott, ($) and Joe, (NefariousJeebus) but they weren't in a clan...just random visitors who stuck with us. They even started their own clan when we weren't actively recruiting and went by the name of [SDS], then |esp| and finally [4th]. Joe ended up leaving when it was |esp| and went back to being clanless. Once we decided to start recruiting more members, Joe was one of the first ones to join. Another was Bill (Scar), who was an ex-SPUD and Jeff (Charlies), which gave us our first East Coast member besides me.

Around the end of December 2001, Aaron was moving to Dave's house and the server couldn't operate on the cable modem anymore because of the bandwidth and IP limitations that were implemented by the local cable company. That's when SDE stepped up. He took over the website development and after several failed relocation attempts for the server, he took over the hosting of that as well. Just for the hard work and dedication that he has put towards the clan he has become one of the highest ranking and most respected members of the OCS community.

Through Jeff (Charlies), we met Chris (DeathScythe) and Sean (Spidey) who joined the clan around the same time as Spike and Jim (AllYourBase). Spike ended up quitting or getting kicked out (not sure which came first). Soon after that, Steve (Rhody) who is in Aaron's band, and Ryan (Pectus) from [::A-::] became members and we ran into a problem with not having an actual procedure to use for recruiting new members. So we adopted the current process, and it has been used successfully for the last four recruits. Omar (O-Dogg), one of Aaron's other roommates, Scott ($) from back in the day, Bryan (wildfire), and finally (so far), Dan (1up) who was in P!D. When we met Dan, he was the owner/operator of Devils Playground which was one of the servers we played at while ours was down. 1up and SDE work together on hosting the current server and SDE develops and maintains the website.

Over the past 2 years OCS has grown with leaps and bounds and has become a tight knit group of friends. We will continue to enforce the clan motto, which is to "Have Fun!" Our goal is to continue to play for the pure enjoyment of the game and provide a place for other gamers to come and play with a community of like minded, easy going gamers.
